Since 1949, the name Kartell has been known for its innovative furniture and high-quality plastic furniture. Giulio Castelli, who initially brought mainly household appliances conceptualized by Gino Colombini onto the market, founded the Milan label. Today the Italian furniture manufacturer is known for extravagant furniture and lamp creations such as the Kartell Bourgie Table Lamp or the Bubble Club Sofa; the stackable Kartell Louis Ghost Armchair is particularly popular and represents just one example of functional design objects made by Kartell.
Since its inception, characteristic Kartell design is focused on creations made of plastic, which are based on unusual design ideas for everyday use. With innovative production methods and new forms of material, the label exercised massive influence on the plastic trend, which dominated furniture and interior design in the 60s and 70s.
Many renowned designers were involved in creating the collections and product lines of the Milan furniture manufacturer, including Vico Magistretti, Philippe Starck and Ron Arad; innovative Kartell creations like the Bubble Club Sofa have already received numerous awards and have been presented at exhibitions around the world. Kartell also runs its own museum since 1999 in Milan. Meanwhile, other materials such as wood, steel or aluminium are used in the production of Kartell furniture; the emphasis is, however, still on high-quality designer furniture and lighting made of plastic.
Kartell Fly, Kartell Masters and Componibili: this is modern living in Italy. Today, Kartell is mainly known for its innovative residential and office series. This includes among others the Kartell Componibili series, which presents a selection of storage and organization systems. Here, individual modular pieces are combined individually as desired and are distinguished by unique design based on round shapes.
Even in the field of lighting, the Italian label has long made a name for itself. Models such as the Kartell Fly Pendant Lamp or Kartell Bourgie Table Lamp impress with their clear and gentle shapes. Other highlights in the Kartell collection include chairs such as the Louis Ghost and the Kartell Masters Chair designed by Philippe Starck, who uses an unusual bar construction inspired by the creations of Arne Jacobsen, Eero Saarinen and Charles Eames.
Beschreibung
